Lance and Jennifer Putnam were born and raised in the Dakotas. Their family homesteaded in South Dakota in 1896. They have been married 29 years and have two grown children, Chance (27) and Nadia (26).
Lance grew up in a Christian home. He was confirmed in a Missouri Synod Lutheran church and also attended Catholic school. In his late teens he had serious questions about the faith and did not get good answers. In his early twenties he walked away from Christ, and his life unraveled.
When he hit bottom, he repented and called on God for help. That began a long season of study: Scripture, theology, and the hard questions he had carried for years. Out of that story he founded Legacy Dads, a ministry that reaches thousands each week through podcasts, media, and conferences. Legacy Dads teaches biblical principles for leaving a lasting legacy in Christ.
Lance served 26 years in Army Special Operations, including multiple combat tours, and retired in 2021. He earned a master’s degree from Liberty University. He and Jennifer completed chaplain training with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and training in Biblical Soul Care. Lance has spoken for FamilyLife and Grace Based Ministries. He currently serves as an instructor and technical manager with Samaritan’s Purse and Unusual Soldiers. Over the years he has served in youth ministry, discipleship, church planting, worship, and missions.
Lance and Jennifer also founded the Salt and Light Group which serves in some of the hardest mission fields in the world. They have lived and traveled in more than 50 countries.
Lance loves the Black Hills, history, and classic rock. He is glad to talk with anyone who has questions about faith, God, the Bible, or theology.
